This article by Bruce E. Brown of Proactive Coaching, from the Leadership collection, is an athletic department assessment tool for coaches interviewing for a job. It provides questions to ask about leadership, culture, professional development, facilities, sharing athletes, booster clubs, community, coaching longevity, success, and teaching staff, with each answer rating the job a Green, Yellow, or Red Light for a coach's chance of success.
Introduction
At the end of most interviews the applicant gets asked, "Do you have any questions for us?" Before you take a job, it is very important that you understand as much as possible your chances for success at that school. Here are a few questions that will assist you in your decision. The answers to each question will give you a Green Light (good to great job), a Yellow Light (be cautious and ask yourself the question, "can I change this or if I can't change this, can I live with it?") or a Red Light (be very careful and ask the committee this question, "what plans do you have to change this?")
