Our Speakers

With 35 years of experience as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator at the junior high, high school, junior college, and collegiate levels, he has coached football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. A former national presenter for the NAIA’s Champions of Character Program, he currently serves as the Director of Proactive Coaching. As a clinician, he speaks nationally to athletes, coaches, parents, school districts, and corporations, sharing strategies for character development and success in sports and life.

Rob is a motivational speaker for “Proactive Coaching“. Along with Bruce Brown, Rob uses his speaking skills and “coaching” knowledge to promote the “Proactive Coaching” mission of helping coaches positively impact their athlete’s lives. His experience gives him an amazing view at the status of modern day coaching and parenting.

Mike Morgan has been in education for over 37 years. He has spent his career teaching instrumental music for grades 5-12 in the Colfax School District. Mike served as the head football coach in Colfax for 26 years, and has served as the athletic director, vice principal and interim principal during his tenure. He has spent his entire career working with young people.

Mike began his career with Proactive Coaching in 2011. Since that time, he has traveled the United States as a clinician speaking to youth organizations all the way up to the college level. Mike started his coaching career while in high school coaching Junior High intramural football. In the summers, he coached the local swim team to two County Swimming Championships. In his over 40 years of coaching, he has coached youth to collegiate sports, coaching football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, swimming and track and field.

Darin Boysen was appointed as the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) Executive Director in the spring of 2011. The NCA serves approximately 4,500 coaches across the state of Nebraska in all sports. Before his arrival at the NCA, he served as an Assistant Director for the Nebraska School Activities Association for five years. Nationally, he served on the NFHS national rules committees for the sport of wrestling and the Spirit of Sport Award.

Coach Boysen was a social studies teacher and coach at North Bend Central High School (NE) for 15 years. While at North Bend, he coached several sports including football, wrestling, and boys’ golf. Darin began his teaching and coaching career in Lake Havasu City, Arizona in 1990.

Mr. Boysen is currently serving on the executive committee of the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors as Vice President (2025) and President (2016). He has also served as an executive committee board member of the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. At the state level, he is a Board of Director for the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation while also serving on their selection committee.

Boysen earned his bachelor’s degree at Midland University (NE) in 1990 and a master’s degree from Doane University (NE) in 1996.

Darin’s wife Tina, a 23-year elementary teacher, joined the NCA staff full-time in May 2022 as the Coordinator of Events and Programs. Darin and Tina have two daughters: Jordan - a NICU nurse at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE and Hailey – completing her degree in Special Education at Doane University in the Spring of 2025.

Darin’s passion is serving coaches and the profession of coaching. He travels the state and nation advocating that education-based athletics and activities are unique and desperately needed in our society today. He joined the Proactive Coaching team of speakers in the Fall of 2024, specializing in The Role of Parents in Athletics presentation.

Jon Frazier started his coaching career in 1994 and has worked with kids of all ages. Most recently he was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Summit High School (Bend, Oregon) from 2011-2024. When Frazier took over at Summit they had never had a team finish with a winning record. Under his leadership, Summit has become one of the most successful programs in the State of Oregon, highlighted by a State Championship in 2024! His teams have also placed 2nd twice, 3rd, and 6th place at the State tournament. During the 2021-22 seasons his team won 36 games in a row, breaking the Oregon record for most consecutive wins by a large school.

Coach Frazier’s teams have not only been successful on the court, but they have been successful off the court as well. His teams have all qualified for the Oregon Dairy Farmers Award for academic achievement. Additionally, his teams have won the Academic State Championship 3 times and finished 2nd one time. In 2016 his team was also awarded the State Sportsmanship Award.

Coach Frazier has been named the State Coach of the Year, Conference Coach of the Year 4 times and was named the State Coach of the Year for all sports in 2015 by the OAOA. He has been selected to coach the OACA All Star Game three times. He is currently the winningest Basketball Coach in School history. Prior to coaching at Summit, Jon coached at Bend High School, Eastlake High School (WA), and Inglewood Junior High School (WA).

Throughout Jon’s coaching career he has found ways to give back to the community by providing leadership training for athletes, mentorship for fellow coaches, and support for parents of athletes. In 2019, Jon was able to join the Proactive Coaching Speaking Team and is positively impacting the groups he is working with.

Jon lives in Bend, Oregon with his wife, Shay, and two young kids.

Scott received his BA in 1982 from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.

Scott is currently the athletic director for Park High School in Livingston, Montana. Previously he was the district-wide athletic director for eight years for Granger School District in Granger, Washington. He has been coaching at the high school level for over 23 years. He has coached both boys and girls in high school basketball as well as football and soccer in Illinois, Montana and Washington. He has been a varsity head basketball coach for 16 years, as assistant basketball coach and assistant soccer coach for 6 years, and assistant football coach for 7 years. He has also worked with grade school, middle school and high school kids at various camps for all 23 years of his coaching career. Scott was awarded the SCAC Athletic Director of the Year in 2008-09.

Scott has written six booklets on coaching and youth/school athletics: A Head Coach’s Guide to Working with Assistants; The Assistant Coach’s Guide to Coaching; Playing Time: A Guide for Coaches, Athletes & Parents; Establishing Your Coaching Philosophy; Team & Program Policies: Elements to Consider; and The Sportsmanship Dilemma: Some Guidelines for Coaches. Lori Thomas is an executive leader with more than 30 years of experience in sports administration and leadership.

In her most recent role as President of Kansas City Professional Volleyball, Lori was responsible for building a brand-new team which included securing a practice and playing venue, identifying the front office and coaching staff, engaging the community, building a strategic plan, and leading an advisory committee. Lori served 10 years as the 1st female commissioner in NAIA history for the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

She served as the executive director for fourteen collegiate athletics programs in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska including 26 sports and 700 athletes.

Before that, Lori spent 16 years at the NAIA national office concluding her role as Senior Vice President with demonstrated success in human resources, national championships, membership services, character development, strategic planning, financial management, communications, public speaking, and problem-solving.

A collaborative, people-oriented leader with years of experience connecting with people at all different levels of sports, from athletes to campus administrators, conference commissioners, and university presidents.

Inducted into 4 Hall of Fames (Johnson County Community College, National Junior College Athletic Association, Idaho State University, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).

Pat earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Washington University in 1981 and taught Physical Education for bulk of his 42 years in education. He earned at Masters of education in Athletic Administration from Seattle Pacific University in 1986 followed by Principal’s certification in 1988. He has been an athletic director for 38 years.

Pat has been head coach at the high school level in baseball, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball as well as the head coach in both boys and girls golf. His 2013 boys’ golf team won the 4A state title. He has also coached the following sports as an assistant at the high school level; baseball, basketball, football, golf, and track. Pat has been selected KingCo coach of the year in basketball and golf on multiple occasions.

Pat has applied many of the principles that are the heart of Proactive Coaching philosophies which he learned while teaching and coaching with Bruce Brown. His most recent basketball team attended one of Proactive Coaching Captains and Coaches workshop which he credits for a highly successful season cumulated in a trip to the quarter finals of the Washington State 4A basketball tournament. He has been on the Proactive Coaching team since 2010 and continues to specialize in speaking to athletes, coaches and parents. Pat lives in Sammamish, WA and to married to Susan his wife of 42 years and together they have three children; Alli, Stuart, and Maddie.

Pat recently retired after 42 years in public schools serving as a teacher, athletic director, and school administrator. He continues to stay active in coaching and looks forward to being able to commit the time to become more active with Proactive Coaching!

Clay Chournos is currently the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Bear River High School in Garland, Utah. Clay has 30 years of coaching experience and has been a Head Coach from youth to high school.

He lives in Tremonton Utah with his wife Hayley. Together they have 3 children Alec 24, Ethan 22 and Olivia 21. Clay is passionate about the benefits youth athletics play in the development of young people and about helping create amazing teams.

Keith has anchored his professional services to supporting the families, organizations, and systems that care for our community's children. As a teacher and a coach, Keith was drawn to the athletes who struggled; those from hard places who needed the team as much as the team needed them. He left teaching and became a social worker and has since worked for child welfare, Idaho Youth Ranch, and is now the Mental Health Coordinator for the Coeur d'Alene School District in North Idaho. He travels the country speaking to educators and coaches on how to get the best out of students and athletes.

From his passionate keynote addresses and practical workshops to personal and tailored coaching, Keith's warm and caring personality shines. Insightful, open, and discerning, Keith's message resonates in a very real, very practical way.

Corinne has been training leaders, coaching teams and coaching individuals to great success for over 14 years. After an initial challenging first coaching season as the head coach of a dance team in Washington State, she realized that leading wasn’t about the x’s and o’s, but about creating cohesive teams, motivating effectively, and ultimately finding the fun in working hard. This was in great part because of Proactive Coaching’s leadership and mentorship. She became driven with leading great teams and finding the best motivational strategies.

With a Masters in Education in Guidance Counseling and an International Coaching Federation Certification, she brings a compassionate, wholistic approach to leaders and managers within organizations.

Corinne works alongside the Proactive speaking team to do group and 1:1 coaching for leaders, which enhances the concepts presented, and puts philosophy into practice.

Dr. Jerry Gaines, a life-long educator, began his career in 1972 at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia where he taught and coached for twenty-one years. He spent the next fifteen years as a high school assistant principal (three at the Chesapeake Center for Science and Technology, and twelve at Great Bridge High). He completed the last three years of his career as a Central Office Supervisor.

Notable achievements include his selection as Teacher of the Year for the Chesapeake School System, Coach of the Year by the Portsmouth Sports Club, and induction into the Hall of Legends by the Chesapeake Sports Club. Dr. Gaines was the first African-American to earn a full athletic scholarship to Virginia Tech where he still holds two records in track & field. He is also the first African American to be inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame and has also been inducted into the Hampton Roads African American Sports Hall of Fame. After college, toward the end of the Viet Nam war, he served his country honorably as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Now retired as an educator, Dr. Gaines travels the country sharing a very profound message that he claims, “a million kids taught HIM.” As a tribute to those many lives that he has touched, he has written a book entitled “40 Stories High” – a selection of short stories where he shares some of his most moving experiences with a small fraction of the thousands of young people he has taught, coached, and mentored.

His three children, Jina, Jeri, and Jon – are all honor graduates of Virginia Tech.

I am a devoted father of two wonderful children and a proud member of the Crow Tribe in Montana. I dedicated the last five years to coaching the Lodge Grass Indians. During my tenure, our team achieved remarkable success, winning 2 state championships, 2 divisional championships, 4 district championships, and 4 conference championships. We maintained an impressive 80% win rate over 130 games. I was honored to be named Coach of the Year twice and led our team to the state tournament every year. Our coaching philosophy, heavily influenced by the warriors of old amongst my tribe, and Proactive Coaching, LLC., focused on character building by engaging the warrior spirit of each student-athlete, and they not only answered the call but took it to new heights. One thing we always say and believe is this that our program was used to give God glory and promote the students for all their hard work and achievements.

One Shot Leadership is a dedicated nonprofit organization with a mission to partner with parents and communities to discover, develop, and deploy the next generation of leaders and world changers. We believe that every young person has the potential to make a significant impact on the world. By providing resources, mentorship, elite athletic training and character development, and opportunities to serve community, we aim to nurture their innate abilities and guide them towards becoming influential leaders. Through collaborative efforts, we will strive to create a supportive environment where future leaders can thrive and make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

I believe that the opportunity to serve others is one of God’s greatest gifts to man. I combine the events, breakthroughs, turning points in my personal life and coaching career to generate my style and leadership approach.

I have worked with and trained individuals to lead teams for almost 40 years. I was blessed to play an integral role in transforming the University of Oregon Football Program “of old” to the new and iconic “O” of today. We successfully captured 7 Pac 12 Championships, 2 National Championship Appearances, and along the way I earned ESPN and Sporting News National Recruiter of the year.

Our team started at the bottom of our conference, yet we worked our way to the top of the collegiate football world. Although we had limited financial resources, we realized that we were rich with great people who understood the concept of “team” and hard work. When we started this journey, the idea of somehow Oregon Football winning championships was a foreign and fleeting notion. We flipped the table by focusing on and investing in our people. The outside voices screamed “the Ducks cannot win a championship.” However, we believed that we could, our players were willing, and we led the way.
