Motivation as a Leadership Style

Motivation is a force that propels people into action. This is not about a motivational "pep" talk before a game or at halftime — it is about a leadership style that produces motivated workers and teams. Most of the time in life, the person you are trying to motivate is yourself; but to be a successful leader, you have to be not only self-motivated but also take on the larger challenge of motivating others. As a coach, you could wait 30 years for that ultimate team filled with highly motivated players — motivated teams are not going to happen without your help. One high-profile football coach said, "If you want a motivated team, only keep motivated people." That is one method, but not a luxury most of us have. A better way is to become a leader who can consistently and effectively encourage and motivate people to a high level of performance.
