1 – Defining True Confidence
Athletic confidence is simply a feeling that you are prepared to perform well and to reach your potential. You cannot purchase, wish or hope for self confidence; it comes from demonstrated skill and previous success. Confidence allows you to relax, focus and trust yourself.
Every athlete hopes to win and if you can consistently compete with confidence it will allow you to play at an optimum level, which obviously gives you the best chance to succeed. Reaching your potential is all anyone can ask of themselves and all that is required to walk through life confidently.
If you find yourself lacking confidence, faking confidence, having your confidence levels depend on other people, or going up and down on the confidence scale, this booklet can help you.
The Impact of Low Confidence
Low confidence athletes are usually afraid that the competition will require things that they are not capable of doing. This can cause them to play cautiously, nervously and fearfully. They constantly need validation from others just to keep going. They are impacted by what others think and say which makes them fragile and overly sensitive. All these things lead to poor or inconsistent performance which leads to less success and lower confidence.
