Preparing for a Tough Conversation with an Angry Parent

Preparing for an Angry Parent

Be Safe

  • Choose your time and place
  • Choose who else is there - Always have another person sit in on the meeting – just to verify and to not let the conversation get off the true purpose – keep the focus on the student
  • Have backup on hand. This type of "buddy system" is just as important as any other, as it could save you in more ways than one.
  • Never in public, on the court or field, always in private – no scenes and no chance to enlist support on the spot
  • "I am here to listen to the message, not the inappropriate language and angry outbursts"
  • Do not meet with a parent that could potentially hurt you physically.
