This article by Bruce E. Brown, from the Proactive Coaching Leadership collection, shares a letter from Josie Price, a senior soccer captain at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. It describes how her team used Proactive Coaching leadership materials, team covenants and a leadership council to transform a disappointing season into an undefeated, conference-championship year, illustrating the difference intentional team leadership and culture can make.

Introduction

Coach Brown,

My name is Josie Price and I am a senior soccer player for Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). This is my fourth year playing for SWOSU, I have had quite the journey. Many lessons have been learned, obstacles have been overcome, and history is finally in the making! I wanted to share with you this journey because you and your Proactive Coaching principles have been a huge part of this journey the past 2 years.

I have had the privilege of being the Captain for the soccer team the past 2 years and all I can say is wow, what a learning experience! I absolutely love the responsibilities that come with being a captain and the influence you can have as a leader.
